Dive Against Debris is a citizen-science project championed by Project AWARE. Countless ocean lovers around the world have already made it a habit to remove debris items they find underwater, such as discarded fishing nets, plastic bags and bottles, lost diving gear and many more. While these efforts are already extremely important and help improving the health of marine ecosystems, Project AWARE takes this even a step further: they encourage scuba divers to report the types, quantities, and materials collected to their online database. All this information gathered by volunteers around the globe enables the organization to understand which kind of debris is the most problematic in certain areas and helps them to advocate for policy change and marine protection measures accordingly. Together with Temple Adventures, we have reported almost 2000 pieces of debris in the last 2 years and feel proud to contribute to the efforts of more than 86000 divers worldwide!
